Aracaju is the capital of the Brazilian State of Sergipe. The capital is located to the margins of the ocean Atlantic, being cut by rivers as Sergipe and Poxim. In agreement with the IBGE, the estimate of the number of inhabitants in the city on July 1, 2005 belonged to 498.619 inhabitants. Being added the populations of the municipal districts that form Great Aracaju (São Cristóvão, Our Lady of the Help and Barra of the Coconut trees), the number passes for 766.803 people. Historical THE capital sergipana was founded in 1855, but the initial mark is still an incognito one. It is believed that she can have been born in Santo Antonio's Hill (one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city), but other researchers think the plan initial of the capital, drifted by Basílio Pirro, had origin in the " Praça Fausto Cardoso ". The oldest streets of Aracaju get the attention geometrically for the plan to regulate, with corners to each 100 meters. The drawing was elaborated as a chess board by the Brazilian engineer Sebastião Basílio Pirro. Today, the city goes by a moment of great expansion, with the development of the architecture and reorganization of the traffic. Geography Aracaju didn't go initially to capital of Sergipe. Previously the state thirst was São Cristóvão. The soil of the city, besides in the Saint neighborhood composed Antonio for an areial, and in closer zones to the sea (Bairros Salgado Filho, Grageru, São José) it was a growth of mangroves area, constantly flooded. That is the urbanized area of the city, with enormous concentration of buildings, that for many years possessed maximum height of 12 floors. With the approval of the " New Managing " Plan, that maximum height arose for 23 floors. The low buildings facilitate the circulation of air for the city, that by nature is quite hot during most of the year. Unlike what it happens in the capital litorâneas, the richest zone of the capital is to Rio Sergipe's margins, as well as the Center. To the seashore, they are the hotels and houses of of summer, except for neighborhoods as the Watchtower and the Crown of the Middle, that contains a great demographic density. Today, the growth of mangroves area is covered for concrete and it is where it is located the part more nobleman of the city, with the neighborhoods Gardens, July 13, Grageru and others. The original vegetation and the swamp, that it was mainly to Rio Sergipe's margins, were almost that completely buried. The relief plan does with that it is quite appropriate the practice of the cycling, being this the means of transportation motivated by the City hall. The choice of the bicycle helps to decrease the congestionamentos and it liberates the public transportation. In spite of that, the cycling is still means of transportation for the lowest classes. Some great bike lanes exist in the city. The oldest are of Av. August Franco, Av. Beira Mar, and more recently, Av. São Paulo (in direction to the most outlying neighborhoods), and of the beach of Watchtower. The city has to east Rio Sergipe, where it was located the beach July 13 (same name of the neighborhood). Today, in the place of the beach, it is a balustrade and a zone for cooper. In its course inside of the capital sergipana, the river is considered brackish. In the vicinity of the mouth the river separates the capital of Santa Luzia's Island and deságua in the beach of the " Crown of the Middle ", where it is also emptied most of the domestic sewer. The provisioning of water is made starting from Rio Poxim and of Rio San Francisco. In the emblem with São Cristóvão's city and Our Lady of the Help exists Rio of the Salt, from where the City hall and matters remove water to water the public stonemasons and other tasks where there is not need to use drinkable water On Rio Sergipe, Ponte Manufacturer João Alves, or bridge it was built Aracaju - Barra of the Coconut trees, that ties Aracaju to Barra of the Coconut trees (city built in Santa Luzia's Island). The name of the bridge is a homage to the governor's father that promoted the construction, João Alves Filho, of PFL. However, in the beginning of the work, a lot of people suggested the change of the name of the bridge for Zé Peixe, a well-known illustration of the city for crossing the river Sergipe swims her, even after senior. The climate is hot and humid, with rainy period of March to August. The annual medium temperature is of 26°C and annual medium precipitation, of 1590 mm. Tourist points Its beaches are, in the sense North-south: it Crowns of the Middle, Old Watchtower, Aruana, Robalo, Shipwrecks, Refuge and Mosqueiro. The beach of Watchtower is the more urbanized, with a modern Border, where he/she concentrates most of the tourism of the city, with hotels, bars, sporting blocks, artificial lake for nautical sports, kiosks, calçadão for walk practice and several events along the year, most of the time organized by the government of the State, that stops the control of the Border. There it is located the tourist point of the Catwalk of the Crab, where several bars are located us which one can eat crabs, one of the most popular foods of the culinary sergipana. Another important tourist part is the area of the Markets, where they exist the Mercado Albano Franco, recently built, and the traditional Mercado Thales Ferraz, that it was reformed recently. THE bridge Aracaju - Barra of the Coconut trees. The Neighborhood July 13. Festival events THE city hall organizes there are some years Forró Caju, in the square among the Municipal Markets, Albano Franco and Thales Ferraz. The party gets to concentrate about 100 thousand people a day. The event took great proportions and it ended being incorporated to the calendar of of June events of the Northeast. In January of 2006 it happened that that, according to the Government, it went to largest previous carnival of Brazil: 14th Pré Caju, that counted on artists as Ivete Sangalo, Dribbled New, Chewing gum with Banana, Harmony of the Samba among others.
